    从表面上看，ignore一词是源自旧时法律用语ignoramus。ignoramus原为拉丁语，含有“驳回”之意。假若大陪审团在诉状背后写下ignoramus，法院就可置之不理。据此，ignore被赋予“不理”、“忽视”及“驳回”等义。严格地说，ignore连同ignoramus都源于拉丁语ignorare‘not to know’。 ignore一出现就受到英国化学家玻意耳(Robert Boyle，1627 -1691)的青睐，他用该词用得非常频繁。然而，直至19世纪ignore还在遭到迂腐文人的蔑视和排斥。词典编纂者约翰逊( Samuel Johnson，1709 - 17 84)在他所编的《英语辞典》中谈及该词时这样写道：“This word Boyle endeavoured to introduce，but it has not been received.”（虽然玻意耳力图引进该词，但迄今未获承认。）
