    公元4世纪时，罗马人开始把玻璃应用于窗户上。那么，在这之前，房屋的窗户是什么样子的呢？中国人很早就学会了用纸糊窗户，在古装戏中我们常常可以看到用手在窗纸上戳一个洞来偷窥的场景。而在古代西方，窗户是什么也不糊的。那时候，人们为了采光和通气，会在屋顶和墙壁上开凿一些细长的缝隙。长是为了多进光线和空气，窄是为了抵御恶劣天气，还可以抵御敌人的进攻。因此，在北欧语中，人们将这种细长的缝隙称为vindauga，由vind（wind）+auga（eye）构成，字面意思就是“wind eye，风眼”。英语单词window就是由此单词演变而来的。 window：['wɪndəʊ] n.窗户，窗口
