paragraph（段落）：古希腊人的分段习惯
同古汉语一样，古代西方语言也是没有标点，不分段落，没有间隔的。古希腊人为了让当时的读者便于阅读，就在每一个新的内容开始的一行前面划一条横线，表示在这一行中有新的段落，有时候还会在行中留出一小段空白作为提示。英语单词paragraph就是从希腊人的这个习惯作法来的，它来源于希腊语paragraphos。词根para表示“在旁边”，词根graph表示“描绘、划线”，连在一起就是“在旁边划条线”的意思。 paragraph：n.段落v.将……分段。
